Over the last three days, I ended up doing something I probably wasn't supposed to do. Instead of focusing entirely on promotion, emails, social media and outreach, I went back to sculpting. To be fair, I think I simply needed a way to clear my head and procrastinate productively for a while.
The good news is that the Bug Army roster is now getting very close to completion. Several new units are already finished and joining the faction. The Hanyms now have their Energy Shield and Cleaver configuration ready, giving them a much more aggressive frontline role. The Keas are also finished, fast flying assault troops equipped with swords and heavy plasma pistols, designed to harass artillery positions and vulnerable support units. Finally, the Lithanyms are now joining the army as small squads armed with heavy flamethrowers. They are expensive, fragile and terrifyingly lethal when they manage to get into range.
At this point, there is only one squad left for me to sculpt before I will be able to add it as Stretch Goal 16. Honestly, I'm trying very hard not to overcomplicate things right now. Every time I create a new squad, I immediately get ideas for more options, but at some point I need to stop expanding the project and actually finish it. My goal is to have the full Bug Army completed before the end of the Kickstarter rather than endlessly adding new concepts.
Now I need a banner for this team...
Even with a lot of assets already prepared in advance, producing squads at this pace is surprisingly exhausting. It's also incredibly rewarding. There is something special about finally seeing units that existed only as ideas and notes suddenly coming out of the printer as actual miniatures. Seeing them physically on the desk after spending so much time designing them never really gets old.
The next priority is obvious. I really need to focus on tutorials, battle reports and gameplay videos. The game itself is now playable, the faction roster keeps growing, the website continues evolving and I think the best thing I can do now is start showing all of this in action. But before that, there is still one last squad to finish. After that, I’ll finally be able to shift my focus toward videos and helping people discover how the game actually plays.
And honestly, I don't think it will be long before I start painting some of these new units. I'm getting impatient to finally put them on the table, roll some dice and see what they can do in an actual game.
