After years of work, tests, campaigns, sculpting, terrain building, and countless games played on kitchen tables, Damocles Wars is finally entering a new stage.
The Open Beta is now live, and the Bug Army Kickstarter has officially launched.
This project has been part of my life for a very long time. Some of you discovered Proxywars through terrain projects, some through STL miniatures, some through the old Damocles buildings, and others through painting videos or previous Kickstarter campaigns. But behind all of this, there was always the same long term objective, building a complete wargame universe designed first and foremost to be fun to play.
From the beginning, my goal with Damocles Wars has been simple. I wanted to create a game that makes the hobby more accessible, more flexible, and easier to enjoy with the miniatures people already own.
The rules are free and playable directly online. Players can use miniatures from major brands, independent creators, old collections, or their own STL files. The idea is not to lock players into a closed ecosystem, but instead to create a game that encourages creativity, compatibility, and freedom.
If you already own fantasy miniatures in classic 28mm scale, there are already around thirty playable army lists available in the Reign of Might universe. Some of them work extremely well with miniatures inspired by classic fantasy settings similar to Lord of the Rings style armies.
Over time, the website will continue to grow with more free content, printable terrain, gaming accessories, campaign systems, battle reports, tutorials, army building tools, and additional factions.
At its core, Damocles Wars is designed for large scale battles that remain fast and fluid to play. The rules focus on reducing friction during gameplay, limiting gray areas, speeding up activations, and keeping the focus on what makes tabletop gaming exciting, memorable battles, dramatic moments, tactical choices, and fun stories shared around the table.
Today also marks the official arrival of the Bug Army.
The Bug Army is one of the first fully developed Damocles Wars factions. A brutal and adaptive force mixing expendable infantry, organic creatures, fast assault bikes, heavy armored vehicles, artillery, mutants...
One of the things I wanted most while sculpting this range was to create miniatures designed for actual gameplay. Clear silhouettes, readable details, armies that remain enjoyable to paint even in large numbers, and models that players can realistically finish and put on the battlefield.
The Kickstarter includes both STL and physical pledges.
The STL pledge progressively unlocks the complete Bug Army range through stretch goals, with nearly 600 miniatures already sculpted for the project.
For players who prefer physical miniatures, several physical boxes are also available, ranging from small starter forces to complete armies with fully customizable unit selections.
This Kickstarter is not the end goal. It is really the beginning of the next phase of Damocles Wars.
More factions are already planned. New rules content is in development. Campaign systems, additional builders, more free tools, battle reports, tutorials, and new printable terrain are all coming progressively as the project grows.
Most importantly, I want Damocles Wars to become a game built around players and creativity, a system where people can use the miniatures they love, tell their own stories, and simply enjoy epic battles without unnecessary barriers.
